HOME: Welcome

Welcome to my Portfolio.

Personal art practice

Although I have been putting my creative focus into more commercial work currently, here's what I like to explore when making art for myself:

Through the collection of reflections, overheard conversation, inner monologue, recollected memories and observational drawings, I try to articulate everyday experience through the lens of an anxious mind. Gathering others' words and conversations alongside my own and transforming them into a public, visual diary, creates an open-ended narrative and reflective experience for both myself and the audience. There is no start and no end - pieces are reworked and recycled, brought back to life, intertwining past and present to explore the shifting of identity and memory.

Hiding the full context of my inspirations removes the distinction between my words and others - whether from private interactions, overheard conversations, or phrases stolen from tv, film, music, and the news. These tensions reflect the battle I face between the need to create and the contradicting fear of exposure and honesty To break through these barriers, I reminded myself that: Nothing happens in the comfort zone.

Commercial art practice

Sketching straight on the paper, alternating between fine detail and blocked out shadows, I love to draw familiar places, architecture and things that people love: their homes, their pets, their favourite local spots.

Over the years, I've been commissioned to illustrate a local pub for its food menu, illustrate a gin distillery brochure, draw clients dogs, and probably most popularly, sketched peoples homes. It feels special to recreate a place so familiar to people with just pen and paper.

Recently, I have also been exploring digital design and illustration for commercial purpose and attempting to find a consistent style. However, it's a strength and a weakness of mine that I tend to jump between mediums, inspiration and subject matter completely!

Copywriting

Including social media copy, long-form blogs, digital ads and professional copy, I've had a go at most styles of copywriting, and I love it.

Commission

Commissions

My commissions include landscapes, cityscapes, homes, pets and loved ones.

Commercial commissions include illustrations for a gin distillery brochure, and a drawing for a pub menu and website. You can also see a few bits and bobs thrown in that I've drawn ad hoc for someone I know, or non-commissioned prints I've sold over the years.

Graphic Design

Although I’ve never received any traditional graphic design training, I’ve spent a lot of hours with my iPad exploring digital drawing, writing, and design.

Through work in the Marketing sector, I have also gained experience in visual communication through design, illustration, and infographics.

I would love to explore this area of interest over the next few years, and hopefully develop and destinguishable style along the way.
