The video piece 'projected' on the paintings in 7039.mi was created in one sitting, typed at my laptop whilst recording the screen. I am writing as I reflect on the work, on the purpose of it and how the audience displays it, but I also ended up explaining myself to the reader. Why? A sense of insecurity in the work?

The video:
The original video was 6 minutes 34 seconds. This was what I was going to name my exhibition. However, whilst exploring the 'projection' over different works, I needed the text to flow within a different shape.
At first I presented all of the 6 paintings as if hanging on a line, similar to photos hanging on a wall, decorative and domestic. This was inspired by the fact I was using my bedroom as a studio, confined in the space and therefor aiming to emulation this. I tried the original square video projected but I wanted it to consume the space more. A longer rectangle typed piece would flow onto the floor, creating a barrier between art and audience similar to my previous exhibition: https://gracecupperpostgrad.wixsite.com/gracecupper/post/formative-assessment-exhibition-prep.
In this show, the project text obstructs the floor instead of the written board piece.

Retyped Video:
I was very reluctant to do this, as it takes away the spontaneity of the first piece, the organic way of writing immediately as a response to thoughts. However, this was necessary to combine the text and paintings in a way I felt reflected my practice. The remade video was only typed once, where I read from the original, and there is still the imperfections and pauses that express its immediacy. This took 4 minutes 18 seconds, which is what I named the work, as a curatorial decision so that it would link to the name of the exhibition - 7039.mi - using metrics of time and space instead of language.
Altering The Paintings:
I was not happy with the cluttered appearance of the original staging. Although I want my work to have an overwhelming, information overload sense to it, I wanted the phrases to stand out, reflecting the way I hone in on parts of texts, of conversation, of thoughts. I picked three paintings that would relate to one another, answering one another, suggesting both talking to myself, the artist, or talking to the audience. Balancing between confrontational and supportive, suggestive but without context, open to interpretation. This new video piece is projected over the works, leading onto the floor near the end of the piece, filling the space, the words obscuring over the paintings and the junction between wall and floor.
